6-8 March 2024, as part of the series of New Economy Legal Forums the BRICS+ New Economy Legal Forum’24 was held in Dubai, UAE, to discuss current issues of legal interaction between the BRICS+ Member States.
Alexander Zamaziy, Managing Director and Chief of Staff of the Arbitration Centre at the RSPP, and Alexander Grebelsky, Chairman of the International Dispute Panel of the Arbitration Centre at the RSPP, took part in the Forum with Alexander Grebelsky acting as a speaker at the round table "International Arbitration: Challenges of 2024".
Mr. Grebelsky highlighted the peculiarities of the arbitration regimes of the BRICS+ countries, incl. its new members, thereby underlining significant differences in approaches to the regulation of arbitration proceedings and identified the obstacles to uniform regulation caused by them.
In Mr. Grebelsky's speech special attention was paid to the BRICS+ Arbitration Mechanism, which was developed by the Arbitration Centre at the RSPP in cooperation with the Association of Lawyers of Russia in order to overcome current obstacles. As Mr. Grebelsky noted, the BRICS+ Arbitration Mechanism based on a system of agreements on the establishment of a common coordinating body, unified arbitration rules, unified rules for the appointment of arbitrators from BRICS+ countries etc. will be the answer to the challenges existing nowadays. The speaker also drew attention to the Draft Rules of Arbitration Network for BRICS+ and Emerging Economies (ANBEE), which is scheduled to be finalized in September.
At the end of his speech, Mr. Grebelsky invited all forum participants to join the BRICS+ Legal Forum to be held under the Russian chairmanship in September.
